How To Have a Successful Engagement Photoshoot

An engagement photoshoot is a way for a couple to capture and announce their love for each other before their wedding day. It is usually the first time my clients meet me and it gives them the opportunity to get comfortable being in front of the camera! I like to schedule engagement photos right after my brides book their weddings so they can use the photos for their Save the Dates!

Here are some tips for a successful engagement photoshoot:

  1. Choose a location that is special to you whether its somewhere you frequent as a couple, or somewhere you know that photographs beautifully! Future brides, your engagement shoot can be done in a variety of locations like parks or beaches. Southern California is home to beaches, mountains, deserts, coastal cities, and grass fields. There are so many options for beautiful backdrops here. One of my favorite locations is Top of the World in Laguna Beach.
  2. Coordinate your outfits to complement each other, but avoid matching too closely. Choose pieces that create a cohesive, but not matching, look.
  3. Relax and have fun! Think of this as a date for the two of you to enjoy. I will guide you with prompts and poses so you don’t have to worry about a thing!
  4. Communicate with your photographer about any specific poses or shots you want to capture. I love sending inspiration photos back and forth with my clients!

Remember, the goal of an engagement photoshoot is to capture the love and excitement between you as a couple, so don’t be afraid to be yourselves and have fun!
